AWARE PRIVACY POLICY

Privacy Statement

 The Association of Women for Action and Research (AWARE) is committed to protecting the privacy of all its members, subscribers, donors, interns, volunteers and clients (including potential volunteers and clients) (collectively “Users”) in accordance with the provisions of the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act, 2012 (“PDPA”). All personal information that we collect from Users is strictly for the purpose of running AWARE and not for any commercial reason.


Collection and Use of Personal Information

The personal information we collect (including Name, Identity Card Number (when required) and contact details) is used to provide, administer and/or manage AWARE’s various services and activities, such as the following:

  • Communication with Users
  • Administration and management of various services provided by AWARE
  • Counselling
  • Case Management
  • Administration and management of membership, donations, internships, volunteerism, etc.
  • Fundraising
  • Shape strategies and plans for our research, advocacy, support services and operational work

 

Disclosure to Third Parties

Except where it is necessary to grant access to data intermediaries (for example, vendors and contractors engaged by AWARE for the provision of software maintenance and other services, including helpline system, call log system, etc.) and/or as otherwise permitted under the PDPA, AWARE does not provide any User’s personally identifiable information to a third party without the User’s consent.


Updating/Correction of Personal Data

AWARE endeavours to record all Users’ personal data accurately.

In the event a User notices any error in his/her personal data held by AWARE or if his/her personal information has changed, he/she should notify AWARE by sending an email (together with proof of identity including name, phone number, email and postal address) to ed@aware.org.sg. The correction will be made as soon as possible but not later than 60 days from receipt of notification. The request will be denied if AWARE is not able to contact the User, or he/she is not able to provide satisfactory proof of identity.


CCTV

The AWARE premises operate CCTV systems, so any visitor to the premises may be recorded. The CCTV is installed for security, to protect both visitors and AWARE staff and volunteers. CCTV footage will be viewed only when necessary (for example to detect or prevent a crime) and is stored on a temporary basis, other than where it has been flagged for review.

and Security of Personal Information

AWARE will take all reasonable steps to ensure that the personal data of Users is securely stored or filed.


Retention of Personal Information

AWARE retains the personal data of Users only for as long as it is required to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected and in any event not for longer than 5 years after termination of the relevant User’s relationship with AWARE e.g. cessation of provision of services to a client; termination of membership, etc., unless it is necessary to do so for legal or business reasons,


User’s Rights under the PDPA

 Under the PDPA, a User has the right to request AWARE:

  • for a copy of his/her personal data held by AWARE
  • to delete his/her personal data held by AWARE

In the case of any request:

  • for a copy of his/her personal data, AWARE reserves the right to charge the User $5 per request;
  • by a client to delete his/her personal data, AWARE reserves the right to withhold, suspend or terminate any services it may have been providing to such User; and
  • by a member, intern or volunteer to delete his/her personal data, AWARE reserves the right to suspend or terminate such User’s membership, internship or volunteer services, as applicable.

Any User who wishes to exercise any of the above rights may submit his/her request in writing and email or post it, together with proof of User’s identity including name, phone number, email and postal address to:
