19 Nov, 3pm – 9pm | Emily Hill, 11 Upper Wilkie Road, Singapore 228120 | More info here.
For the Road Ahead: Rohingya is a fundraising event for an urgent international crisis organised by Florence Leung, Lakshman Kp, Theophi Kwek, Regina Toon, Wendy Toh and Weilee Yap.
Come join us for an afternoon of films, theatre performances, open mic, and flea market to learn more about the Rohingya crisis, and raise funds for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders).
MSF is a humanitarian medical aid NGO which works relentlessly in sustaining the health and security of Rohingya refugees. Their work is important in this transitional period where political forces and international communities have yet to commit to a sustainable plan for the Rohingyas’ permanent resettlement.
The crisis is current and funds are urgently needed. Even if you are unable to make it to the event, you can donate here. 100% of donations go directly to MSF’s current work in Bangladesh.

3 27 Nov - “He Named Me Malala” - Film Screening and Discussion
After two sold out screenings, the Singapore Committee for UN Women is proud to bring you the film ‘He Named Me Malala’ once again, in collaboration with the EU Delegation. On the 9th of October 2012, Malala was attacked by a masked gunman of the Taliban terrorist group on the way home from school. A single bullet went through her head, neck and shoulder. The attack had left her unconscious and in critical condition, but she managed to survive the attack. This bullet did not silence her. Instead, Malala went on to become a fierce champion of women’s rights and the universal right to education. She co-founded the Malala Fund so as to bring awareness to the social and economic impact of girls’ education and to empower young girls to speak out against social injustices. For her efforts, she received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 at the age of 17, becoming the youngest ever recipient of the prize. Her birthday, 12th of July, was declared as Malala Day by the United Nations, in order to honour her and to raise awareness about the right to education, especially for young girls.

7 10 Dec - “Water” - Film Screening and Discussion
The Singapore Committee for UN Women, in collaboration with the Canadian High Commission, is proud to bring you the film ‘Water’. In 1938, Gandhi’s party is making inroads in women’s rights. Chuyia, a child already married but living with her parents, becomes a widow. By tradition, she is unceremoniously left at a bare and impoverished widows’ ashram, beside the Ganges during monsoon season. The ashram’s leader pimps out Kalyani, a young and beautiful widow, for household funds. Narayan, a follower of Gandhi, falls in love with her. Can she break with tradition and religious teaching to marry him? The ashram’s moral center is Shakuntala, deeply religious but conflicted about her fate. Can she protect Kalyani or Chuyia? Amid all this water, is rebirth possible or does tradition drown all?
