  • 1 Sexual Assault First Responder Training

3 hours (Online) | Recommended group size: 50 pax

Based on experiences of clients of our Sexual Assault Care Centre, survivors often lack the support crucial for their recovery when they speak to family, friends, colleagues and official bodies about their experience. This can result in survivors internalising their feelings of shame and guilt, though the assault is never their fault. Often, loved ones grapple with how they can help and what they should say—after all, their actions and words can have a huge impact on a survivor.

Through SACC’s interactive training sessions, participants will be able to understand the complexities of sexual violence, dispel myths, learn about Singapore’s legal framework and remedies for sexual crimes, and act as an effective first responder to create a culture of support for sexual assault survivors.

The goal of this training is to create support systems for survivors of sexual assault, and to equip participants with the necessary skills to be effective first responders to survivors.

    SAFRT covers:

    • Defining sexual assault (including harassment)
    • Understanding consent
    • The role of a first responder
    • Understanding the impact of trauma on survivors
    • Providing support to survivors of sexual assault
    • Resources available for help
For our regular community SAFRT workshops, please check out our events page for upcoming sessions.
If you’d like us to conduct SAFRT for your community (e.g., religious community, school, neighbourhood group), please contact us at volunteermanager@aware.org.sg.

  • 2 Finding your passion

1 hour | Unlimited no. of participants

This talk takes attendees on the personal journey of our Executive Director, Corinna Lim, and how she found her inner voice to become a social activist. This talk can be used to inspire participants to find their inner voice of what they stand for and how they can manifest that voice in their professional, public and personal lives.

  • 3 Birds & Bees: a Workshop for Parents

Birds & Bees is a workshop by AWARE that helps parents start and sustain important conversations with their children about sex, in a non-judgmental way.

No matter where you are in your parenting journey, the Birds & Bees workshop will allow you to:

    • Understand the lasting, positive impact of talking to your children about sex and relationships
    • Introduce crucial information about consent, personal boundaries, and safety to your children
    • Talk openly about the difference between respectful, healthy relationships, and abusive, unhealthy relationships
    • Improve your communication with children on difficult or uncomfortable topics
    • Create a home where your children are not afraid of approaching you if they have questions or are troubled about a relationship or sexual encounter.

Through case studies and facilitated discussions, the workshop will give you a chance to think more deeply about your values and sexual health knowledge, and improve communication with your children.

Typical workshops are intimate, with 7-15 participants. All parents are welcome, though we’ll deal with issues most relevant to parents of teenage children (12-18 year olds).
