Equal maternity leave for unwed mothers

Good news: Unmarried mothers will receive 16 weeks of maternity leave, just like married mothers. In this spirit of inclusion, we hope the government reconsiders the many difficulties still facing single parents. Read more about what can be done here.

NEWS & VIEWS

Our letters in the press

AWARE had a very busy April. We published two letters in The Straits Times on caregiving needs: how state support for the elderly will strengthen, not replace, family caregiving, and how the state can invest more in childcare and early childhood education to support lower-income families. Click the links to read them!

Law meant to cover female sex abusers

A transgender man was cleared of sexual penetration of a minor after the High Court ruled that only a man (assumed to have a penis) can be guilty of the offences. AWARE is deeply dismayed by this decision which denies justice to sexual assault survivors. Read our letter in full here.

We participated in the hearing on Elected Presidency

AWARE was invited to clarify our submissions in the first public hearing at the Supreme Court on 18 April. Read our feedback in response to the public consultation on the Elected Presidency here. You can also watch a video interview with AWARE's Executive Director, Corinna Lim, here.

WHAT'S ON

Our first sexual assault support group

Sexual assault can be traumatic and survivors sometimes feel isolated and confused. AWARE's Sexual Assault Care Centre (SACC) is launching a support group for women who have experienced sexual assault. Find out more here.
